The September NASCAR Twitter Rankings turned into a family affair for the Montoyas.

Juan Pablo Montoya gained more followers than Danica Patrick this month, putting him atop the Twitter Rankings (he and Patrick also became the first drivers to top 200,000 followers overall).

And Montoya’s wife Connie, who recently gave birth to the couple’s third child, was the biggest mover inside the rankings with a leap from 31st to 12th.

How did she do it? Our theory is this tweet from her husband provided a boost in followers.

Meanwhile, the news wasn’t as good for another ex-Formula One driver. Nelson Piquet Jr., despite being No. 3 overall in the total follower rankings (he has made several starts in the Truck Series this season), plummeted 20 spots on the monthly list to 28th.

A surprising JJ Yeley rocketed from being unranked to 29th, and Martin Truex Jr.‘s girlfriend Sherry Pollex made the top 35 for the first time this month, landing at 35th.

Other big gainers included Max Papis and Elliott Sadler’s spotter Brett Griffin, who picked up seven spots apiece.

David Reutimann (previously 27th) and Colin Braun (28th) dropped out of the rankings.

A refresher on the rules: Any current driver or team owner, their wives or significant others, crew chiefs, spotters, engineers and other family members are eligible. At this time, media and public relations accounts (including tracks, sponsors, teams and drivers who don't tweet for themselves) are not eligible.
