NBA Free Agency: Vince Carter Waived By Phoenix Suns, According To Report

In a move that comes as little surprise, the Phoenix Suns have waived Vince Carter, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic. The Suns owed Carter $18 million for next year, unless they waived him within 72 hours of the beginning of the free-agent period. The Suns will now owe him only $4 million next season.

Carter has badly declined from his glory days, so the move isn’t a surprise. The Suns had previously indicated plans to release Carter earlier in the week. Now, it appears it is official.

Carter averaged just 13.5 points per game on 42 percent shooting after being acquired in a trade with the Orlando Magic, along with Marcin Gortat, for Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu in December. Gortat proved to be the prize of the trade for the Suns, with Carter relegated to being the price of getting him.
