March Madness Scores: Pitt Cruises Past UNC-Asheville
NCAA Tournament Update: Pittsburgh Struggling With UNC-Asheville At Halftime
It hasn’t been the ideal beginning to the 2011 NCAA Tournament for No. 1 seed Pittsburgh. It looked like it would when the Panthers raced to an early 12-point lead over No. 16 UNC-Asheville, but the Bulldogs rallied and now only trail 30-25 at halftime.
Pittsburgh led 23-11 with 7:42 remaining in the first half, and given that UNC-Asheville played an overtime game on Tuesday to get to this point, one would think fatigue would set in. Instead UNC-Asheville scored 14 of the last 21 points of the half to cut the lead down to 30-25. It would have been better had UNC-Asheville not missed an easy tip-in in the closing seconds.

It took overtime, but UNC-Asheville polished off Arkansas-Little Rock in the 2011 NCAA Tournament bracket’s brand new First Four round to earn the right to be slaughtered by Pitt in the round of 64. UNC-Asheville had the honor of winning an NCAA Tournament game in Dayton on Tuesday night before begin shuttled off to Washington D.C. for a quick turnaround and a date with No. 1 seed Pitt. On Thursday at 3:10 p.m., the Panthers and Bulldogs battle it out for a trip to the round of 32 in the Southeast region.
Prediction: Pitt takes this one easily, 80-65.
