March Madness Scores: Butler Advances In NCAA Bracket Past Old Dominion On Matt Howard Buzzer Beater

We have our first buzzer beater of March Madness. Matt Howard scored on a layup with no time remaining to carry No. 8 seed Butler past No. 9 seed Old Dominion in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs advance to the bracket's Round of 32, where they will face the winner of the Pittsburgh vs. UNC-Asheville game.

Kent Bazemore tied the game at 58 with two free throws, setting up Howard's shot. The Bulldogs ran the clock down from 30 seconds, and Shawn Vanzant lost it trying to go up for a shot. The ball tapped around right into Howard's hands under the hoop, and he converted the layup as time expired.

Howard and Shelvin Mack had 15 points to lead Butler, while Frank Hassell scored 20 points to lead the Monarchs.

Here is an updated look at the Southeast Region of the 2011 NCAA Tournament bracket.
