VIDEO: George Mason Knocks Off Villanova On Luke Hancock’s Three
↵George Mason looked like it was dead in the water in its first-round NCAA Tournament game against Villanova, but that was before a late rally put them back in it with under a minute to go. All they needed to finish the rally off was Luke Hancock rising and firing.
↵Hancock’s three-pointer gave the Patriots a two-point lead with under 20 seconds remaining, and the Patriots survived a wild sequence to stun Villanova, 61-57. George Mason trailed 54-48 with two minutes to go, but went on a 13-3 run to close the game, helped by some poor decisions by Villanova. Case-in point: the Wildcats’ defense on Hancock on the play. Hey, guys, Hancock is pretty good. You might want to try a defensive strategy other than “leave him wide open.”
↵Gus Johnson’s call here, as usual, was perfect. As great as this shot by Hancock may have been, it wouldn’t have been nearly as epic if Johnson wasn’t the one calling the action. That’s just the truth.
