No. 5 Arizona scored a March Madness win over No. 4 Texas, 70-69. Until early in the second half, the game looked like one that Arizona would run away with, but the Longhorns kept pluggin’ away.
NCAA Bracket Update: Arizona Withstands Texas Rush, Wins 70-69
Texas pulled within two points of Arizona with about eight minutes left after chipping at the early Wildcats lead before finally tying it with about three minutes to go. J’Covan Brown’s free throw shooting gave them a 67-66 lead with about two left. He also hit the jumper to give them a 69-67 lead at the one-minute mark.
But then! A five-second violation was called on an attempted Texas inbound, giving Derrick Williams a chance to hit a tying layup and one, which he hit. Brown sprinted down the court to attempt the would-be winning layup, with mass confusion as to whether he or Gary Johnson was fouled.
will move on to play No. 1 Duke on Thursday in Anaheim.
