Virginia is known for a lot of things--tobacco and ham, anyone?--but big time basketball isn't one of them. At least, it wasn't. But don't look now... Virginia Commonwealth and Richmond are over here blowing your mind (or ruining your bracket, at least).
Richmond Is Hoopstown, USA, According To Richmond Times-Dispatch
Forget the Big East. The center of the basketball universe is in Richmond, Virgina HOOPSTOWN.
VCU blew out Purdue on Sunday and has a decent shot at taking Florida State this weekend, while Richmond knocked off Vandy and Morehead State to earn a Sweet Sixteen date with Kansas. And if you guessed that all of this would happen, you were probably drinking heavily when you picked your bracket. Here’s to hoping you at least had the chance to gamble on it, as well. Of all the places that could have landed two teams in the Sweet 16... Richmond?
Yeah... It still doesn’t seem real. But hey, never doubt Hoopstown!
