D.J. Gay, San Diego State Rallies To Tie UConn At 45 In Sweet 16 Game
D.J. Gay cut the Huskies lead down to 42-41 when he took a kickout pass from Malcolm Thomas and nailed a three-pointer from the right corner with a man running at him. UConn then couldn't get the ball to Kemba Walker on the next possession, and Shabazz Napear missed a desperation three-pointer. It looked like Walker was open, but Jeremy Lamb didn't get him the ball.
Gay then poked the ball away from Walker in transition, got the ball back and drew a foul. His two free throws gave the Aztecs a 43-42 lead and completed a 16-6 run. Walker then silenced the crowd with a pull-up jumper from the free-throw line, but Kahwi Leonard scored on a layup to put San Diego State up 45-44 on a great dribble drive. He then picked up his third foul with 12:16 remaining, and had to be taken out of the game.
