On Friday night, Kansas is once again reminding us all why it’s a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Halfway through the Jayhawks’ Sweet 16 match-up against 12-seed Richmond, Kansas leads, 41-22.
A couple of blocks from Tyshawn Taylor, as well as a pair of steals from Tyrel Reed, have helped to stifle the offensive efforts of the Spiders, who are shooting only 9-for-31 (29 percent) from the field. Brady Morningstar, who leads the Jayhawks with 12 points, shot 5-for-7 from the field in the first half. Meanwhile, Marcus Morris and Thomas Robinson have pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
Justin Harper is leading Richmond in points (10) and rebounds (five). The Spiders have had as many chances to score from the field as Kansas, as both teams have attempted 31 field goals, but Richmond’s shot selection has left something to be desired. They’ve only converted three of their 14 attempts from beyond the arc, most of which were highly contested by the Jayhawks.
