On Friday night, Kansas punched its ticket to the Elite Eight after breezing past Richmond in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament, 77-57. In doing so, the Jayhawks continue to redeem themselves after last year’s shocking early exit.
NCAA Bracket Update: Kansas Routs Richmond, 77-57, To Advance To Elite Eight
Brady Morningstar led Kansas with 18 points, while Marcus Morris added 13 points and eight rebounds. Tyshawn Taylor chipped in with a game-high 10 assists.
Richmond was plagued throughout the game by Kansas’ stifling defense. The Spiders often resorted to highly-contested three-pointers, and as a result, they were a dismal 4-for-26 from beyond the arc.
Kansas now advances to the Elite Eight for the fourth time under head coach Bill Self. Last year, Kansas’ run in the tournament ended with a bitterly disappointing upset loss at the hands of Northern Iowa. The Jayhawks’ quest for redemption will continue on Sunday, when they will face the winner of Friday night’s VCU-Florida State game with a Final Four berth at stake.
