The final 10 seconds of Butler’s 74-71 overtime win over Florida captured why the Bulldogs are advancing to their second straight Final Four while the Gators leave New Orleans with regrets. Video of those last 10 seconds and a breakdown of the final Florida shot after the jump.
Butler Vs. Florida, VIDEO: Bulldogs Earn Second Straight Final Four Berth, Beat Gators In Overtime
Here’s my thought process, which might be representative of the typical Florida fan’s, minus all the four-letter words:
- Whew, Kenny Boynton's inbounding. That means he probably can't miss another shot from 30+ feet just like the one before this final play.
- OH DEAR GOD ERVING WALKER HAS THE BALL.
- OH DEAR GOD ERVING WALKER IS PULLING UP FROM 28 FEET TO TAKE A THREE.
- ...well, I knew that wasn't going in.
- Chandler Parsons' awful day (five points on two-of-nine shooting, seven rebounds, two assists after averaging 10-6-6 through his first four NCAA Tournament games) got a little bit worse with that deflection on a possible rebound.
- OH HEY WAIT THE BUTLER GUY THREW IT AWAY.
- ...aw, man, that's Kenny Boynton tracking it down.
And so Butler moves on to another Final Four, and Brad Stevens runs his winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament closer to 80%, and Florida’s trigger-happy guards shoot down their own team with inaccuracy. And it gets no easier for me to watch on the second pass.
But I suspect anyone wearing Butler blue, and anyone who is no dear fan of Florida orange and blue, will enjoy seeing this again and again. Especially for the last 15 seconds of the video, featuring Butler’s players jumping up and down, the tough-as-steel Bulldogs bouncing on Nikes that look nothing like glass slippers.
