It’s been a game of runs early in this Final Four showdown between VCU and Butler. The Bulldogs scored the first five points of the game, but VCU responded with 11 straight points as it got its three-point game going. VCU leads 11-7 at the 14:57 mark of the first half.
VCU Vs. Butler, Final Four Score: Rams Hot Early, Lead 11-7
VCU opened the game by getting a good look inside for Jamie Skeen, but he missed the left-handed layup. At the other end, Shelvin Mack started off on the right foot, nailing a three-pointer from the corner. VCU, meanwhile, missed its first three three-pointers, including a wide open miss by Ed Nixon. Mack then slipped backdoor for an easy layup, and Butler took a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game.
Bradford Burgess, though, got VCU on the board with a three-pointer from the corner, and then Jamie Skeen nailed a three-pointer after Andrew Smith missed a point-blank layup. On the ensuing Butler possession, it turned it over, and Burgess hit another three-pointer, this time from the right corner.
After a Mack miss, Skeen completed the 11-0 run by drop-stepping to the left block and laying it in. Khyle Marshall stopped the run with a putback layup, but the pace of the game certainly favors VCU.
