Former Auburn QB Cam Newton recently signed a big deal with Under Armour and as part of that he's apparently making the media rounds on Tuesday. The NFL draft process is important for all players but especially for Newton as he tries to show NFL teams, and the public, that he's more Aaron Rodgers than JaMarcus Russell.
Cam Newton’s Media Tour Could Be Going Better
A couple of sports writers -- SI's Peter King and Yahoo!'s Dan Wetzel -- have tweeted out a few snippets from a conversation they had with Newton.
Newton: “I see myself not only as a football player, but an entertainer and icon.”
Newton on limited experience: "not to sound arrogant but what I did in 1 year others couldn't do in their entire collegiate careers"
ESPN’s Todd McShay noted some concern of “self-entitlement” with Newton and these quotes don’t help that cause (though, to be fair, it’s one quote out of a 15-plus minute interview).
Fortunately for Newton, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to prove to NFL teams that he’s worthy of a high draft pick. The next step is this weekend in Indianapolis at the 2011 NFL Combine where he’ll reportedly participate in all drills for NFL scouts.
