2011 NFL Combine: Blaine Gabbert Says He’s Preparing To Be A Starting QB

Former Missouri TIgers QB Blaine Gabbert spoke to the media at the 2011 NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Friday and sounded confident in his work ethic heading into the NFL He said, “Anything’s possible” when asked about going No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers and that, wherever he goes, he’s going to work to become a starting quarterback.

“I’m going to go in with the mindset that I’m going to be the starter from Day 1,” he said. “That’s how quarterbacks have to be. You’ve gotta be the competitor that’s going to go in there, work your tail off and fight for the starting job. As soon as I’m drafted, I’m going to work to be the starting quarterback.”

Gabbert’s the only top quarterback not throwing at the Combine instead waiting for Missouri’s pro day on March 17. He said he would make “every throw” and wouldn’t shy away from any throw.

Gabbert weighed in on Friday at 234 pounds and standing 6’4”. Wes Bunting of National Football Post wrote he “looks the part”.

Through one day of the Combine, Gabbert certainly says the right thing. He won’t be throwing this week but he will run on Sunday when the rest of the quarterbacks work out.
