Auburn QB Cam Newton is expected to be picked in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft and, judging by his workouts, that will likely be the top 10 of the first round. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has a list of the teams that have planned workouts or visits with Newton and they’re flush with teams at the top of the draft.
2011 NFL Draft: Cam Newton Lining Up Workouts With Top Teams
Here are the top 12 picks in the NFL draft. The teams crossed out are who he is not visiting with or working out for: Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings.
I wouldn’t even count out the Cardinals or 49ers. Just because they’re not working him out doesn’t mean they’re not in the market for Newton. Likewise, just because a team like the Broncos are working him out doesn’t mean they plan to draft him.
It appears Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert is pulling ahead of Gabbert at this point though we’re still a month away from the 2011 NFL draft and plenty can (and will) change.
