The 2011 NFL draft is less than a month away so we’re starting to get a good idea of how high certain players will go next April. The top 10 of the draft is loaded with some good talent as Gil Brandt recently expressed on Sirius NFL Radio:
2011 NFL Draft: Picking The Top 10 Players
"I don't know if I've ever seen a draft like this. It's confusing...I think I can tell you nine of the first 10 picks in the draft."
But he says he just can’t tell you which players will go to which teams in the top 10. I’ll take an attempt at nailing down the “sure things” we have right now for the top 10.
I think both quarterbacks -- Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton -- will be gone in the top 10, as well as two defensive tackles -- Nick Fairley and Marcell Dareus. I think we see at least one receiver as well, probably A.J. Green. Da'Quan Bowers' injury concerns no longer make him a top 10 lock, although it's still likely. CB Patrick Peterson is in that top 10 group, though. LB Von Miller also seems to have risen enough where he'll probably be a top 10 pick.
That’s seven players I count that are near “sure thing” status in the top 10. Others like Bowers, CB Prince Amukamara and WR Julio Jones probably have strong cases for the top 10 as well but they’re less of a sure thing, in my mind.
While we’re dying to know which players are picked by which teams in the top 10, the entire fun of the draft is guessing and the 2011 NFL draft certainly has us doing a lot of that.
