The San Francisco 49ers are up next in SB Nation’s 2011 NFL mock draft selecting seventh. The 49ers are an interesting pick because they can go in a few different directions. SB Nation’s Niners Nation is making the pick and they’re going with Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: San Francisco 49ers Select CB Prince Amukamara
Niners Nation says the two biggest needs heading into draft day are quarterback and cornerback. With quarterback, the top two guys -- Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton -- are off the board and there’s not a third guy that will be in the top 10. So the 49ers look to cornerback and Amukamara is the best on the board.
Mocking The Draft agrees that, if quarterback is gone, defense is the pick butsuggests another linebacker.
While it's highly likely cornerback will be the selection, the team may also consider a rush linebacker with this pick. There is a good amount of depth at cornerback this year, but not as much for 3-4 outside linebackers. If San Francisco goes linebacker, it would either be North Carolina's Robert Quinn and Missouri's Aldon Smith.
Still, it’s hard to go argue with a top corner like Amukamara. He was the best player on one of the best defenses in the country last year San Francisco could do worse.
