The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are selecting 20th in SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft and representing Tampa Bay, Bucs Nation, has selected Ryan Kerrigan. I think a lot of folks are predicting they go with a pass-rusher here and it comes down to Kerrigan or Aldon Smith.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select DE Ryan Kerrigan
On the difference between the two,Bucs Nation writes:
With Missouri’s Aldon Smith and Purdue’s Ryan Kerrigan both still on the board, they get to choose between a highly talented but raw and inexperienced prospect in Smith, and a less talented but highly productive prospect in Kerrigan. In the end, I think the Bucs will fall in love with Kerrigan’s motor and college production and pick him over the higher upside of Smith. The fact that Kerrigan was a co-captain in college will speak to the Buccaneers, as they’ve made it a point to target team captains since Raheem Morris and Mark Dominik took over the team.
It’s hard to complain when you go with a pass-rusher considering the importance of getting to the quarterback. If you can get to the quarterback, it eases the pressure on the rest of the defense. I like this pick.
