April 28, 29 and 30 will be three of the few “normal” days this offseason as the NFL lockout as affected everything but the selecting of players in the 2011 NFL draft. The second the draft ends, though, the lockout will be causing problems again.
UFL’s Jerry Glanville Plans To Pounce On Undrafted Free Agents After 2011 NFL Draft
Usually the end of the draft means teams will start signing undrafted free agents. The process is competitive and it happens quickly. Unfortunately with an NFL lockout there can be no signing of undrafted free agents. So you’ll have this large group of players who, in other years, would be joining a team that are now just sitting around.
If UFL head coach Jerry Glanville has anything to say about it,they’ll be playing in another league altogether.
"I can guarantee you, I'll be sitting on somebody's doorstep," said Glanville, the new coach and general manager of the Hartford Colonials. "Back when I was with the Falcons, they used to fly me all around the country, and the minute the draft was over, I'd pounce on 'em like a panther. I'd have my own little private plane, and I'd fly all over to get these guys. Well, now that's going to be our league."
This is going to be a very interesting situation. The NFL is by far the better opportunity but, with the lockout, what else are these players supposed to do?
