2011 NFL Mock Draft: Pittsburgh Steelers Select OT Nate Solder

SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft rolls on and at pick No. 31 the Pittsburgh Steelers, represented by Behind The Steel Curtain, have selected Colorado OT Nate Solder. The big, 6'8" offensive tackle has long been considered a first round pick and the Steelers will make him one.

BTSC says given the current state of the Steelers offensive line, Solder is the best possible pick.

When you look at the total package of offensive tackles for the Steelers, the optimist might tell you that Max Starks and Willie Colon will be back, that Flozell Adams has another year in him, and that coach Sean Kugler can make Jonathan Scott better. The pessimist will tell you that the group is shaky at best, aging, coming off severe injuries and mediocre to begin with. The realist will tell you that drafting Solder, regardless of whether you see the glass half empty or half full, would upgrade the entire complexion of that unit with the addition of talent, youth and durability.

It’s hard to disagree with that. The Steelers were in the Super Bowl for a reason and part of that is because of their consistency. Consistency comes from having solid offensive and defensive line. I like this upgrade.
