Peter King of SI.com has released the only 2011 NFL mock draft he’ll do and there are a few surprises included. Here are a few thoughts on King’s mock draft.
A Few Surprises In Peter King’s 2011 NFL Mock Draft
A.J. Green to the Cardinals. This surprises me a little bit but thinking it out, there's some logic here. WR Larry Fitzgerald has one more year on his contract and it's unclear if he'll be willing to stay in Arizona. If he's not, then the Cardinals will need a backup plan, and that could be Green at the fifth pick. Many Arizona beat writers are predicting the Cardinals won't go with a quarterback.
Texans trade up to get Patrick Peterson. Rumor has it that the Texans want to trade up for Peterson. In his mock draft, King has Houston making that trade up to the seventh spot to acquire Peterson.
Jake Locker to the Vikings. Could Locker go this high? It's certainly possibly but there are a lot more question marks with him than the top two quarterbacks, Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton. The Vikings also potentially need someone to play right away and I'm not sure that Locker is the best pick for that.
Andy Dalton to the Dolphins. This is arguably the biggest surprise, and maybe King is telling us that he knows something. Dalton is considered a late first round prospect but the Dolphins do need a quarterback and, depending on how the run of quarterbacks go, he could be the pick.
