2011 NFL Draft: Mike Mayock Says Jake Locker To Redskins Makes Sense

The 2011 NFL draft is exactly one week away and we're still trying to nail down where the quarterbacks will go. Most feel confident that QB Cam Newton and QB Blaine Gabbert will go in the top five of the draft. After that, though, the quarterbacks are a mystery.

QB Jake Locker as been mocked as high as No. 8 to the Tennessee Titans and as low as the beginning of the second round so figuring out where he will go is a key to this draft.

If it were up to NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, Locker would be headed to the Washington Redskins.

“Locker likes getting out on the edge and he’s mostly accurate off play-action rolling out right or left,” Mayock said in a teleconference with reporters Wednesday. “That’s what Mike Shanahan’s scheme is. It’s a lot of play-action. It’s a quarterback making a decision on half the field. ... If he has a chance to play early and play effectively, I think that’s the kind of system he’s set up for.”

Mayock recently said that, if Locker had some out last year, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan would have thought long and hard about selecting him with the fourth overall pick. Logically speaking, that would mean he's in play with the Redskins 10th overall pick.

The other chatter around Locker has him going to the Minnesota Vikings with the 12th pick -- assuming the Redskins don't take him which, according to Mayock, isn't a very good assumption.
