NFL Draft Rumors: Who’s Looking To Get Back Into Round One?

Because of the NFL lockout there can’t be any players involved in trades in the 2011 NFL draft but there can be future picks traded. So we are expecting some trades in the draft -- we’re just not sure how many. Undoubtedly, there will be some teams at the top of the second round looking to get back into round one to secure the player they want.

And when teams are talking about trading back into the first round, a lot of times the target is a quarterback. This year there are several bottom-of-the-first-round quarterbacks that will be available including Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton.

SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft has a story up suggesting trading back into round one may not be the best idea. So on that note I wanted to look at the 2011 NFL draft order and figure out who will be looking to get back into round one to snag a quarterback. Here are a few possibilities:

Buffalo Bills: Their quarterback situation is pretty interesting because, on the one hand, you have Ryan Fitzpatrick who at times looked solid in 2010. But as far as a long-term answer at quarterback? I'm not sure he's the guy. The Bills could select a quarterback with the third overall pick but if they don't, they could be among the teams looking to snag a quarterback at the end of round one. I think they're in good position to select a developmental quarterback -- which is what most of the bottom-of-the-first-round quarterbacks are -- because Fitzpatrick can handle the load in 2011.

Cincinnati Bengals: They're apparently big fans of Dalton and it's possible he's gaining enough buzz to be a first round pick, although most see him as a second rounder. If Dalton is there and a team like the Seahawks still need a quarterback then I could see Cincinnati trying to get back into the first round.

Tennessee Titans: Peter King's mock draft has the Titans trading back into the first round and selecting Ponder so that's something to remember. I don't think King has any hard information that the Titans are planning on doing that but he didn't come up with that out of thin air. The Titans quarterback situation is like the Bengals -- pretty bleak.
