NFL Draft 2011: Many Sons Of Football Fathers Available, Patrick Peterson Works Out For Niners

A roundup of NFL Draft 2011 news and rumors.

The Kansas City Star’s Randy Covitz hits on an interesting trend in the 2011 NFL Draft class: many sons of NFL players are available. Specifically, he notes that Mark Ingram, Cameron Jordan, and Cameron Heyward, all potential first-rounders, come from excellent bloodlines.

Mark Ingram’s father, Mark Sr., spent 10 years in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the 1990 New York Giants; Heyward’s father, the late Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, was a rugged running back for five teams during an 11-year career; Jordan’s father, Steve, was a six-time Pro Bowl tight end for the Minnesota Vikings; and Matthews’ dad, Clay, spent 19 years as a linebacker for Cleveland and Atlanta.Obviously, NFL players begetting NFL players isn’t exactly a new trend — hello, Manning brothers — but if you are the sort of person who remembers Mark Ingram Sr. or Ironhead Heyward, their kids getting drafted might be a reason to feel old.

Niners Nation notes that the 49ers reportedly brought in Patrick Peterson for a private workout on Saturday. That’s good for Niners Nation, which shrugs off size concerns about Peterson and brings up the name of Ronnie Lott in an effort to remind fans that top-10 defensive backs have panned out for San Francisco before.
