NFL Draft 2011: Will Dolphins Reach For A Quarterback?

The NFL lockout has created a difficult scenario for several NFL teams because free agency hasn’t come yet. Besides the NFL draft, free agency is your way to fill holes on your team. For some teams, a hole is at quarterback.

With the lockout this year, it’s making things very difficult for quarterback-needy teams. You don’t have free agency so, depending on how the lockout goes, the draft may be your only chance to snag a quarterback.

Quarterback isn’t like other positions where you can plug a player in and hope the others around him make up for his lack of talent. You can’t fake a good quarterback like you could an offensive or defensive lineman.

That's why the Dolphins may be in a bit of trouble if they're trying to find a quarterback replacement. They're too far down the draft order to select one of the top two quarterbacks -- QB Cam Newton or QB Blaine Gabbert -- and it's very possible QB Jake Locker, considered the third quarterback on the boar, will be gone.

So where will the Dolphins go? Do they reach for a quarterback like QB Ryan Mallett or QB Christian Ponder? Or do they wait and hope free agency hits allowing them to snag another quarterback on the open market? Or do they stick with who they have in house for another year?

The Dolphins are among several teams in a tough spot with their quarterback situation and the NFL lockout. How they approach the draft will go a long way to determining their future success.

For you Dolphins fans out there, keep an eye on The Phinsider this week to see if any more quarterback rumors start popping up.
