NFL Draft Rumors: Could Andy Dalton Be A Top 10 Pick?

We mentioned in our last update that it seemed QB Blaine Gabbert’s stock could be dropping in the 2011 NFL draft. Earlier this week Pat Kirwan of NFL.com suggested in his latest NFL mock draft that Gabbert could slip all the way to No. 15 even though the majority of mock drafts say he’s likely to be the fourth or fifth overall pick.

Michael Lombardi of NFL Network has since chimed in and said Gabbert could slip out of the top 10.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network has an even bigger surprise than Gabbert slipping all the way to the 15th pick. He suggests QB Andy Dalton could go as high as eighth overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Several league sources said the Titans are high on Dalton and consider him to be an elite prospect who carries less of the varied risk of other quarterbacks in this draft. One source indicated the offensive coaches in Tennessee are pushing for Dalton, while the defensive staff is high on Auburn defensive lineman Nick Fairley.

So it’s possible that Dalton goes ahead of Gabbert. Considering the months of mock drafts we’ve been looking at, that would be a complete shock. La Canfora’s report comes on the heels of NFL Films’ Greg Cosell saying Dalton grades out as a fourth round pick.

As there is every year, surprises will fill the first round of the draft.
