NFL Draft Rumors: Raiders Could Trade Into First Round

The Oakland Raiders sent their 2011 first round pick to the New England Patriots in the trade for DE Richard Seymour so they don't have a first round pick right now.

Key words: right now.

The Raiders want back in the first round, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The first step to making a deal is finding a team to dance with, and the Raiders have been working the phones to see if there are teams willing to trade out of the first round (there are). The second step is finding the right player to trade up to get.

I think there will be several teams they can trade with at the bottom of the first round. There will, however, be some competition. It’s believed that at least a couple of teams will be looking to move back into the first round to select one of the quarterbacks that will still be available.

It’s difficult to identify who the Raiders are hoping to snag. They have a number of different needs so you can realistically predict 5-10 different players they would be looking at.

There is precedent for the Raiders getting back in the first round. In 2005, they didn't have a first round pick and got back into the first round to select CB Fabian Washington. The Chronicle report notes that owner Al Davis has had a first round pick every dating back to 1989.
