NFL Draft Trade Rumors: Will Steelers Move Up?

Earlier this week a report came out from NFL Network's Jason La Canfora that the Pittsburgh Steelers wanted to move up in the 2011 NFL draft in order to secure G/C Mike Pouncey, brother of Steelers' Maurkice Pouncey. It seemed to make sense as to why the Steelers would want him but moving up doesn't seem to be their style.

That hasn’t stopped SB Nation’s Behind The Steel Curtain from predicting the Steelers will trade up all the way to No. 20 and select Pouncey. Check out their mock draft here.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the other hand is playing it safe and going with a familiar name for the Steelers pick -- CB Aaron Williams. He’s been a popular mock draft choice for the Steelers assuming they stay at pick No. 31.

He is not the fastest cornerback in the group (which is why he will last to No. 31), but he has other attributes including size and unrealized talent that a good coaching staff might bring out in him. Many believe his best position will be at safety, and that's OK, too, because he can help put the finger in the Steelers' cornerback dike for a few years. Then he can move to safety after they find other corners and when either Troy Polamalu and/or Ryan Clark retire.

Do the Steelers take a risk and move up for Pouncey or do they play it safe and take Williams? History says it’ll be the latter.

The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft starts at 8 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, April 28th and SB Nation has everything you need to prepare for it - NFL mock drafts, draft projections, scouting reports, the full NFL draft order and more. Check it all out at SB Nation's NFL Draft Hub and our NFL Draft blog Mocking the Draft.
