The Denver Broncos held the 36th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft but traded it to the San Francisco 49ers. With the pick, the 49ers selected Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. With QB Andy Dalton getting drafted by the Bengals one pick before, the 49ers clearly felt they had to make their move now to ensure Kaepernick.

This is a very intriguing moving for Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers have QB Alex Smith in house and hope to keep him moving into 2011 so Kaepernick could slide into San Francisco and have some time on the bench instead of being thrown into the fire.
On the trade, the 49ers gave up the 45th, 108th and 141st picks in exchange for the 36th pick. That may seem steep for just nine spots but, if you feel like you’ve identified your quarterback, the cost is worth it.
