The St. Louis Rams are on the clock with the 14th pick in the SB Nation’s 2011 NFL mock draft and Turf Show Times is making the pick: DT Corey Liuget. The big defensive tackle out of Illinois is first-round talent and Turf Show Times noted it’s difficult to make this pick with Mizzou’s Aldon Smith still on the board but Liuget fills a big hole.

The biggest hole in the unit was at the three-technique, where the Rams lacked a player capable of holding his owner with bigger guards, much less getting through them. Liuget gives that unit an instant upgrade in both the pass rush and run defense, as well as providing something of an insurance policy if 34-year-old Fred Robbins' career renaissance was just a one-year phenomenon.
This is a tough pick. I can completely see the reasoning behind the Liuget pick but I have a hard time seeing Aldon Smith passing them by. Mocking The Draft seems to agree noting that Smith is still available.
Smith would carry the most value with this choice, by far. The Rams have Chris Long at one end spot, but not much else. Smith would give them the speed rush they haven’t had in a long time. Liuget isn’t a bad pick, though. While he’s become a little overrated, he fills another big need for the Rams.
