Mark Whipple To Be UConn Head Football Coach, According To Report

Former Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Mark Whipple is in final talks to replace Randy Edsall as Connecticut Huskies head coach, according to an Associated Press report. Edsall left UConn after the Fiesta Bowl to take over as Maryland head coach.

Whipple ran the Canes offense in 2009 and 2010, with his quarterbacks leading the nation in interceptions this year. Some of that could be attributed to Jacory Harris' injury, but Harris threw more than plenty of his own. The Miami fan's sentiment seems to be that Whipple and head coach Randy Shannon didn't exactly see eye-to-eye, which may have impacted the offense's performance. I wish I had better news for you, Huskies fans, but these are the facts.

In brighter times, Whipple was the head coach for UMass, Brown, and New Haven, compiling a 121-59 record and a Division II National Championship with the Minutemen. A former Ivy League quarterback, he’s clearly home in the Northeast.
