Liverpool's newest manager Kenny Dalglish has promised to give striker Fernando Torres plenty of support, and it appears that these aren't just empty words from the gaffer. The Reds are preparing a bid for Southampton's 17-year-old attacking midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who could cost the club £10m.
Liverpool Seeking Southampton Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Lest you've forgotten, another youngster, Theo Walcott, also started with the Saints, which will provide endless opportunities to compare Oxlade-Chamberlain to the speedy Arsenal man. In fact, the Gunners have also been linked with the midfielder, but considering it's January, it's hard to put any sort of stock in those rumors.
What’s more interesting is that Dalglish views this as a way of dealing with the Torres problem. It’s evident that the Spanish striker hasn’t had the best of service this season, and giving him more to work with would certainly help boost his confidence and remind fans that Torres isn’t truly broken. But expecting a 17-year-old, fresh from League 1, to be that provider is putting quite a bit of faith in the youngster.
