Omar Cummings has been training with Aston Villa for about a month. Now, it looks like that may turn into a short-term loan. Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier said he's been impressed with the 28-year-old Colorado Rapids striker.
Omar Cummings, Aston Villa Closing In On Loan Deal
Houllier says he "will make a decision about him soon. It will be a loan deal and we would need a work permit."
How long that loan could be for is still unclear. Houllier has previously said he was hoping to have Cummings until March as the Rapids have said they want Cummings for the start of their season. The Rapids have also said that if the price was right, they would consider a loan deal. It's unclear how much money the Rapids would be seeking for a relatively short loan such as this.
Cummings is coming off a season in which he scored a career-high 14 goals and helped lead the Rapids to their first ever MLS Cup. He has made 21 appearances for the Jamaican national team, which should help his chances at receiving a United Kingdom work permit.
Aston Villa is also reportedly pursuing Sunderland's Darren Bent. It's unclear if successfully signing Bent would have any effect on a possible Cummings loan.
