First broke on Twitter by Tony Pauline, Villanova wide receiver Matt Szczur will not pursue a career in football.
Villanova’s Matt Szczur chooses baseball over football
Szczur received $1.5 million to play in the outfield for the Chicago Cubs. Because he’s going to play baseball, Szczur will not be participating in the Senior Bowl this year.
As far as the draft goes, this is just another blow to the weakening wide receiver class. Szczur is a good-sized receiver and excellent after the catch. He lined up all over the field and could have been a good gadget player.
Szczur's decision has a positive impact on Kentucky's Randall Cobb, who is another do-everything threat on offense.
