Believe it or not, the Tampa Bay Lightning are a contender in the Southeast Division and the Eastern Conference this season. Fact of the matter, though, is that with Dan Ellis and Mike Smith in net, they weren't going to win anything but a lot of frustration.
Lightning Get Needed Help In Goal, Acquire Dwayne Roloson From Islanders
Steve Yzerman has gone out and changed that, acquiring veteran Dwayne Roloson from the New York Islanders in exchange for former first-round pick Ty Wishart.
“In this trade we give up a promising, former first-round pick. We wish him luck in the Islanders organization,” Yzerman said in a statement. “In Roloson we have acquired a proven, veteran goaltender who will provide stability in net.:
Stability in net. It’s key, and now the Bolts think they have it. Roloson, 41, is old. There’s no denying that. But he’s experienced and he’s actually still quite good. His numbers -- 2.64 GAA and a .916 save percentage -- are respectable, especially while playing on such a bad team.
He is stability. The Bolts now have consistent goaltending to go along with explosive offensive firepower.
