The year's first all-star game of prestige, the 2011 East-West Shrine Game, is today at 4 p.m. (EST) on NFL Network.
Following a week of practices, a few players have helped themselves. According to multiple reports from different writers, Citadel cornerback Cortez Allen and Richmond cornerback Justin Rogers may have helped themselves the most.
Of course the biggest star in today's game is North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin. After missing the season due to suspension, Austin was a force during practices. Cortez Allen | CB | Citadel
Allen may be the cornerback to watch in a game that has a few solid ones. Allen has good size at 6’1 1/2 and 197 pounds. But he’s made a name for himself this week with aggressive play. A team that likes their corners to jam and ride receivers may fall in love with Allen.
It’s been no secret that this year’s Shrine Game has below-average quarterbacks. Because of that, Carter could really become the star of this game for the East. Carter is a somewhat short but strong running back. He’s reportedly helped himself this week and could close it out with a good performance.
Don’t view Green simply as a pass catcher because of his 6’3, 248-pound frame. Even though he is good after the catch, he’s also a decent blocker. He should fit on an NFL team as a third tight end with upside.
Terrence Toliver | WR | LSU
Many have soured on Toliver because he’s not a sensation as an athlete, but he’s the best wide receiver in today’s game. He’s big and physical with decent hands. Toliver is a good route runner and shouldn’t have a problem finding a spot on an NFL roster.
