Michael Vick To Be Franchised By Philadelphia Eagles, According To Reports

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick put together an outstanding season in 2010, and will reap the benefits next year because of it. Originally set to be a free agent ahead of the 2011 season, Vick will reportedly be franchised tagged by the Eagles, keeping him under contract next year, but significantly boosting his salary.

According to the report, by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Vick will almost quadruple what he made this year with the franchise designation.

Vick made $5.25 million in 2010 but would make an estimated $20 million -- the average salary for the five highest-paid quarterbacks in the league -- if he is designated the Eagles’ franchise player

With Vick locked up at a high rate, it's possible the Eagles shop backup Kevin Kolb, who is under a cap-friendly contract and is highly sought-after in the league. Kolb began the season as the Eagles' starter before suffering a concussion in week one. From there, Vick took over, leading the Eagles to the NFC East title and earning a Pro Bowl berth for his efforts.
