The Best Animated Sports GIFs Of 2010, Numbers 15 Through 11

15. Which statement is Kellen Moore replying to?

“Hey, could you do that thing where you point the guns and then the scoreboard shows up on the screen?”

“Kellen, honey, come back. You forgot your coat.”

“Do you think playing football is kind of like shooting guns? If so, how?”

“My dog is gravely ill. Will you please give us a ride to the veterinarian’s office?”

“Hello.”

14. Armando Galarraga’s perfect game

I know I’ve been poking fun with a lot of these, but allow me to be earnest for a moment.

This is a very well-made GIF. It starts right as Armando Galarraga is getting ready to take the throw and complete his historic perfect game, and it ends right after he celebrates the final out and officially completes his perfect game. After this, of course, he was hoisted on his teammates’ shoulders and presented with a “perfect game” trophy, but we don’t really need to see all that again. Just that smile is enough.

What an achievement! There have only been 21 perfect games thrown in the history of baseball. How many pitchers actually got to make the final out of their own perfect games, and in such dramatic fashion? Very few, I’d imagine!

I am a really big fan of where this GIF starts and ends.

13. Rusty Smith fails to impress his grandpa

(Click image to view. Thanks to @worstfan)

The Titans became the first NFL team to ever draft someone out of Florida Atlantic when they chose Rusty Smith, a 23-year-old quarterback who is the youngest person named Rusty on the planet. Thanks to the disintegration of the Titans’ QB depth chart, Rusty got himself a start, and he proceeded to throw three interceptions and get shut out by a 20-0 score.

So, let’s see: rookie jobber quarterback from the deep South... embarrassing loss... yeah, I think we need to cast him a rail-thin grandfather who sits in the stands, sandwiched between happy people, while he crosses his arms and shakes his head disapprovingly.

Perfect, perfect. Okay, can we get Rusty to slip on a banana peel? No? Anvil? No?

12. “YOU!”

When I was in high school, a friend told me that if you suddenly point at someone for no apparent reason, that person will either become angry or start laughing. I don’t know whether this is universally true, but I’ve learned to respect the point, as it usually means that you either a) are about to play kickball, or b) just found your car in the parking lot.

Ryan Howard ended up grounding out here rather than striking out, but I still chalk up the gentleman’s efforts as a success. The creepy thing is that he waited until the camera was in focus. He knew exactly when to point. As an aside, how many moments like these did we miss before the advent of the DVR? Dozens. Hundreds. Lost forever.

11. Is It In You?™ No, not really.
(A late scratch for another hockey GIF which, sadly, was found not to have taken place in 2010. Thanks, Google Reader sharesiblings!)

Welp! Here I am, Mr. Dale Weise! Suited up an’ at the ready to play some puck! Sittin’ here waitin’ patient until Coach says I oughtta get on the ice! Let’s see... got m’jersey on, got m’hockey stick, got m’hockey helmet! All dressed up to help out m’team and do the best I can!

Oh gee whiz, I forgot to hydrate! What kinda knucklehead am I? Heh! Might could drink outta this bottle o’ Gatorade. Jeez. Do I unscrew the lid or just squeeze it? How’s a fella s’posed to drink it? Welp, bottoms up! GBLUERK

Aww lincolnlogs! I’m just no good at all at this Gatorade business. Maybe I oughtta take the cap outta my mouth... no, no, I’m just too ding-dang sad to do that right now.
