Sanders, Faulk, Jerome Bettis, Curtis Martin, and Willie Roaf are the five candidates from the modern era that will be eligible for the first time in 2011, and run the slate of finalists to 17, including 16 players and NFL Films’ Ed Sabol.
The other finalists for induction are Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Dermontti Dawson, Richard Dent, Chris Doleman, Charles Haley, Chris Hanburger, Cortez Kennedy, Andre Reed, Les Richter, and Shannon Sharpe. Hanburger and Richter were both nominated by the Hall of Fame’s seniors committee.
Hall of Fame voting will take place on Feb. 5, the Saturday before the Super Bowl, and results will be announced on a live show on NFL Network that night.
Current Hall of Fame guidelines stipulate that between four and seven finalists should become Hall of Famers this year.
