Mike Heimerdinger Dead: Former NFL Offensive Coordinator Passes Away At 58

Former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, 58, loses his battle with cancer.

In some heart breaking news this morning, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports on Twitter that former NFL offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger passed away at age 58 late Friday night after losing his battle with cancer.

Former Titans, Broncos and Jets offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger died Friday night. World lost a great man. RIP, Dinger.

Heimerdinger spent over a decade as a coach in the NFL ranks. He was a wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos under Mike Shannahan. He was the long time offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans and helped bring along quarterback Steve McNair. Heimerdinger was an offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans on two separate occasions. He was regarded as one of the better offensive coordinators in the NFL, and I know as a Jacksonville Jaguars fan I hated playing his Titans teams, especially with Steve McNair, twice a season. He could just flat out call an offense.

Heimerdinger was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and underwent chemotherapy during the 2010 season, even still calling some Titans games. In 2011, he was released from his contract by new Titans head coach Mike Munchak.
