NFL Picks And Predictions Week 7: Chargers Vs. Jets

The head coaches started the sparring early between the Jets and Chargers. Which marginally functional team wins the mouth bowl?

It seems like there was something in the media this week about this game. If only Rex Ryan would say something stupid to fan the flames of hype around a purely mediocre New York Jets team. I guess fans and the media will have to wait. Oh, that's right, Ryan did make some blustery remarks to the press this week, which just served to remind everyone about how disappointing both the Jets and Chargers really are each year under their respective head coaches.

San Diego is finally off to a good start under head coach Norv Turner, but they've beaten mostly underwhelming opponents. This is their chance to silence at least some of the doubt by knocking off a team slightly more respectable. Slightly. New York is third place in the AFC East, behind the Patriots and the Bills.

Mike Tanier at the New York Times picks the Jets to win, but notes the problems with their offense:

In news unrelated to Ryan's imaginary jewelry box, Plaxico Burress promises that the Jets offense will soon "go through the roof." It would be nice to at least see them get a few inches off the ground.

Andrew Sharp at SB Nation picks the Jets too. The panel at CBS is unanimous for the Chargers this week, and ESPN finds just two takers for the Jets on their panel.
