The war of words between the camps of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is back on, with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum firing the barbs this time. Out of seemingly nowhere, Arum blasted Mayweather for continuing to duck Pacquiao while maintaining the mega-fight between two of boxing’s biggest stars will never happen.
Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Will Never Fight, Bob Arum Says
But this time the reason a fight will never happen is not because of drug tests or money; it’s because Mayweather is scared of Pacquiao’s hands.
“Once Manny demonstrated that fearsome right hand there was no chance ever that the fight would happen,” Arum said. “None. Don’t kid yourself. I know Mayweather, everything else is bulls---.”
It was only a matter of time before the “You scared” dialogue popped back up.
Pacquiao was a bit more political in his assessment of why an agreement has yet to be reached.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe the promoters can not afford him. I think that’s the reason. The promoters cannot afford him. What he’s asking is hard.”
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, was also diplomatic about the situation, saying it’s Mayweather’s loss if the mega-fight never happens. While Arum let it fly, Pacquiao stayed quiet and Roach almost took on a pleading tone, making for an interesting dynamic in the camp.
At this point, the fight needs to happen -- just as it has for the last year, if not more. The public is tired of hearing about it and the war of words between the two camps has outstayed its welcome.
