Georgia Vs. Florida Game 2011: Cocktail Party History And Fast Facts

The annual Florida Georgia game is on tap for this weekend and has had some fantastic games in it’s long disputed history.

The Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs meet up this weekend in Jacksonville, FL for the annual Florida-Georgia game, formerly (but not really formerly) known as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." This game has been played since 1904, when Georgia beat Florida 52-0, if you ask Georgia. If you ask Florida, it's been played since 1915, when Georgia beat Florida 37-0.

This is a series full of memorable games and has been dominated in spurts. Early in its history it was dominated by the Bulldogs. Lately, it’s been dominated by the Gators. The Bulldogs are just 2-9 against Florida since the 2000 match up and 3-18 since 1990. In 2007, the last time Georgia won, the Bulldogs rushed the field with their bench on their first score nearly causing a brawl.

In 1966 when then Gators quarterback Steve Spurrier had wrapped up the Heisman trophy, he wound up throwing three interceptions against the Bulldogs in a 27-10 loss. Then, how could you mention a Florida-Georgia game without the infamous “Run, Lindsey, Run!” radio call from long-time Georgia broadcaster Larry Munson?

Florida in a stand-up five, they may or may not blitz. Buck back, third down on the eight. In trouble, he got a block behind him. Gotta throw on the run. Complete to the 25. To the 30, Lindsay Scott 35, 40, Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40 . . . Run Lindsay, 25, 20, 15, 10, Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott.

The improbable 93-yard touchdown play sealed the Bulldogs 26-21 victory as Georgia moved into the No. 1 ranking and went on to win the 1980 National Championship.

Series record: Georgia leads, 47-40-2

Last year’s result: Florida won, 34-31 (OT)

Current streak: Florida has won two

Longest-ever streak: Both teams, 7 games

First meeting: 1904... or 1915
