Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has unveiled his Game 5 lineup, and it looks exactly like his Game 1 lineup except this time rookie Paul Goldschmidt is playing first base instead of vet'ran Lyle Overbay.
Kirk Gibson’s Game 5 Lineup
1. Willie Bloomquist, SS
2. Aaron Hill, 2B
3. Justin Upton, RF
4. Miguel Montero*, C
5. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
6. Chris Young, CF
7. Ryan Roberts, 3B
8. Gerardo Parra* LF
9. Ian Kennedy, P
Relatively speaking, this is not a particularly threatening lineup against Yovani Gallardo. There are seven right-handed hitters in there, and Gallardo's held right-handed batters to a .289 on-base percentage in his career. The two left-handed hitters in the lineup aren't exactly All-Stars, even if one of them is batting cleanup.
Still, this is basically the lineup the Diamondbacks used all season -- with the exception of Willie Bloomquist in for Stephen Drew -- and the D'backs did plenty well enough. I'm just saying that it's hard to spot a particular danger area for Gallardo, who pitched so well against this (almost) same lineup just six days ago.
Fortunately for the Diamondbacks, the past does not always predict the future.
