When sixth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, it seemed like just another straight set win. But it was actually Tsonga’s 50th victory of the 2011 season. It’s the second time in the 26-year-old’s seven-year career that he has won 50 matches in a season.

His 50th match win took place on Tuesday, with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the round of 32 of the BNP Parbias Masters in Paris. Tsonga won the tournament in 2008
The 6-foot-2, right-handed Frenchman hit nine aces and had zero doubles faults in the match, winning 48 of 76 service points. From ATPWorldTour.com:
“Bercy is a very important tournament for me. Masters or not, I want to play well here,” said Tsonga. “I know that surface the suits me, and I’m able to have a good result here. The goal for me is really Bercy, this Masters.”
On Thursday, the Frenchman will face either Nicolas Almagro of Spain or Andreas Seppi of Italy. Should Tsonga win, he will guarantee his spot in the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
