Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped from his home in Venezuela, according to multiple reports on Wednesday night. Ramos was in Venezuela for the offseason, playing winter ball with Tigres de Aragua at the time of the reported kidnapping.

The news was reported by Rafael Rojas, who later added confirmation from sources close to the situation and Ramos’ Venezuelan team.

Details are few and far between at this point, other than the initial reports of his kidnapping. According to El Nacional, Ramos was approached by armed men and taken away, but the assailants have yet to make any ransom demands.

According to respondent, 4 gunmen approached the grandeliga Washington Nationals near his home in the Santa Ines, capital of Carabobo, and took him away.

"They are still waiting for the kidnappers contact the family," continued the insider. "At the moment the only thing they have done is to inform the police."

Ramos became the Nationals’ starting catcher this past season, during his rookie year with the club, hitting .267 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI.

We’ll be back with more on Ramos’ kidnapping as it becomes available. For more on Ramos’ MLB team, visit our Washington Nationals blog, Federal Baseball, and SB Nation DC.
