Earlier Tuesday, it was reported by ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that Josh Willingham and the Minnesota Twins had reached a multi-year contract agreement. Terms weren't disclosed, and then some time passed, and, long story short, here's this, via Joe Christensen:
Josh Willingham Not A Minnesota Twin Just Yet
Not sure how much is semantics, but #Twins officials saying deal with Willingham isn’t done and talks with Cuddyer aren’t dead. #staytuned
Willingham and the Twins are presumably close, or else the report wouldn't have gotten out. It might just be a matter of a few small details. But the Twins won't confirm that anything's done and Willingham's agent won't confirm that anything's done, so for now, Willingham remains a free agent, and Michael Cuddyer remains an option for Minnesota. An unlikely option, but an option.
The Twins reportedly offered Cuddyer $24 million over three years - said to be their final offer. Cuddyer wants more than that. I’m still assuming this ends up with Willingham replacing Cuddyer in Minnesota. But that’s less certain than it looked.
