It could have happened, according to the New York Post, which writes of a 1915 letter sent to AL president Ban Johnson from Yankees co-owner Col. Tillinghast l’Hommedieu Huston:
Yankee Stadium In Times Square?
↵“We have canvassed the feasibility of the 42nd Street site for a ballpark,†Huston wrote in the July 16, 1915, letter. “Col. Ruppert and myself will be with the Club when it reaches Chicago, and we will be glad to discuss the subject with you then.â€â†µIncidentally, you can buy this letter if you want, for $4,500, from an outfit called “Gotta Have Rock and Roll” auctioneers.
