The San Francisco 49ers can clinch the NFC South with a win over the last place St. Louis Rams at home on Sunday. The 49ers failed to do so last week in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but can clinch the franchise's first playoff berth since the 2002 season. It was only the second loss on the season for the Niners and quarterback Alex Smith has revived his career under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers will bring their historic rush defense, which is giving up just 75 yards per game on the ground, to force the Rams into being one dimensional.
Rams Vs. 49ers: TV Schedule, Game Time Announcers And More
The San Francisco 49ers can clinch their best playoff berth since 2002 with a win over the St. Louis Rams.
The season for the 49ers is what many thought would be the season for the St. Louis Rams, but the Rams have been a massive disappointment in 2011. Under Josh McDaniels as the new offensive coordinator, the Rams offense has been one of the worst in the NFL, specifically passing the football. The Rams defense is also dead last in the NFL at stopping the run, so they should expect to see a heavy dose of 49ers running back Frank Gore. The playoffs are out of the picture for the Rams at this point, but a victory over the 49ers could go a long way in building momentum to next season.
