The Philadelphia Phillies have a problem. They're not sure if they'll have a third baseman under contract for 2014 or 2015. They'll have pitchers and a first baseman, but what of a third baseman? If only there were some way to make sure that there was a third baseman under contract in four years -- an experienced one in his mid-30s, if possible.
Report: Phillies Interested In Aramis Ramirez
The Phillies are interested in Cubs’ free agent Aramis Ramirez

So it makes perfect sense that the Phillies would be interested in Aramis Ramirez. From Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post:
#Phillies are strong players for Aramis Ramirez
Of course they are. And to get away from the snark regarding the future of Phillies finances, Ramirez was a genuinely good hitter last year, and he would likely bolster the lineup in 2012, which is the immediate concern. The Phillies were a league-average team in the National League last season, and that wasn't helped by Placido Polanco's .277/.335/.339 line. Ramirez hit .306/.361/.510 for the Cubs, marking the seventh season out of his last eight in which the third baseman had an OPS+ better than 125.
The addition of Ramirez to the Phillies would make them a scarier team in 2012, and it would likely do the same for 2015. Just for different reasons.
